Newcastle United might have an advantage in the race to sign Santos wonderkid Angelo Gabriel.
The Magpies have been linked with a move for the Brazilian teenager, with Steve Nickson recently watching him play against Flamengo.
Newcastle’s head of recruitment has been to Brazil to discuss a move, but his initial approach was reportedly rebuffed.
The Toon owners are reportedly willing to pay £17million for Angelo, but Santos want more than that for the 17-year-old. Given he’s been likened to Neymar and linked with the best clubs in the world, it’s no surprise.
I News state that the South American side believe he is worth double what the Magpies are willing to pay.
But Newcastle are in the mix for his signature, and might have an ace up their sleeve.
Brazilian duo could help bring Angelo to Newcastle
Eddie Howe already has a couple of Brazilians in his ranks. Joelinton won last season’s Player of the Year award, while Bruno Guimaraes instantly became a fan favourite after his big money move from Lyon.
The pair have struck up a great friendship at St James’ Park already, and it was hoped they would inspire more Brazilians to join the club this summer.
There have been rumours about Lucas Paqueta and Renan Lodi, but Newcastle are yet to add to their samba contingent.
However, i News have suggested that Bruno and Joelinton could give Newcastle an advantage in the race to sign Angelo.
They state that Barcelona, Liverpool and Real Madrid are all interested in the teenager alongside the Magpies.
Whether Bruno and Joelinton give us an edge over those sides remains to be seen. It may depend how genuine their interest is.
But Newcastle appear to be very keen to sign the forward. And if Bruno and Joelinton can help convince Angelo to move to St James’ Park then they will become even more popular on Tyneside.
