Newcastle transfer news: How much NUFC are willing to pay for Angelo

Newcastle United are reportedly willing to spend more than they ever have before on a teenager on Angelo Gabriel.

The Magpies have been linked with the Santos wonderkid over the past month, with reports in Brazil suggesting the teenager could head to Tyneside.

He was first linked in early June, and it was then reported that Newcastle were planning a bid after contact with the forward’s representatives.

The 17-year-old is an incredibly exciting talent who has been compared to Neymar, and Newcastle are trying to bring him to St James’ Park.

Newcastle prepared to bid £17million for Angelo

According to Globo Esporte, Newcastle are willing to offer £17million to sign Angelo.

The club have never spent that much money on a teenager before. Their most expensive signing under the age of 20 is still Hugo Viana, who cost £8.5million in 2002.

It highlights the renewed ambition at Newcastle, the potential Angelo has and the inflated price of footballers in 2022.

However, the Magpies might have to increase their proposal, as Santos reportedly want more money than that.

Globo Esporte add that there isn’t an official offer from Newcastle yet. Any deal wouldn’t take place until 2023 anyway, with Angelo not turning 18 until December.

Steve Nickson watches Angelo

While Newcastle are yet to lodge an official bid for the forward, the club are increasing their efforts to sign him.

Angelo’s Santos side faced Flamengo at the weekend, losing 2-1 courtesy of a winner from Gabriel Barbosa. He’s another player who has been linked with a move to St James’ Park.

Newcastle’s head of recruitment Steve Nickson was in attendance for the game, and saw Angelo play for just shy of an hour.

Nickson seems revitalised since the change of ownership, with deals for Bruno Guimaraes and Sven Botman heavily influenced by him. And his biggest ever signing Joelinton is finally proving his worth too.

The Toon official appears to have his finger on the pulse in South America. Hopefully he can land us one of Brazil’s future stars.
