One player from each Premier League team Newcastle should target in January

Newcastle United have been linked with a ridiculous amount of players going into the January transfer window.

Plenty of rumoured targets come from the Premier League, but who should they target if they could sign one player from every top flight club? Some suggestions are realistic, while others are wildly optimistic…

Arsenal – Ainsley Maitland-Niles

A versatile player who was linked with the Magpies in the summer, Ainsley Maitland-Niles is out of favour at Arsenal.

That could force him out of the Emirates in January, and he’s a player Newcastle should be looking at. And he’s probably very attainable too.

Aston Villa – Ezri Konsa

Newcastle have been linked with Tyrone Mings, but it’s his centre-back partner they should be looking at.

At 24, Ezri Konsa has a long future ahead of him, and has already established himself as a solid Premier League player.

Newcastle need players for the present and the future, and Konsa would be a perfect blend of both.

Brentford – Ivan Toney

The former Newcastle United striker has finally made it to the Premier League, and unsurprisingly scored against the Magpies in Eddie Howe’s first game.

Newcastle need cover and competition for Callum Wilson, and Ivan Toney could be just that. He could also form a lethal partnership alongside our number nine.

Brighton – Tariq Lamptey

A player wanted by Warren Barton, Tariq Lamptey would be an exciting addition for Newcastle, and an improvement on our current options.

Prizing him away from Brighton would be tricky, but he’d be an option with more longevity compared to Kieran Trippier, who’s been heavily linked.

Burnley – James Tarkowski

James Tarkowski was one of the first players linked with Newcastle after the takeover went through.

Those rumours have continued, and he would be a great addition to our defence. Newcastle must and likely will test the waters with a bid for the England international.

Chelsea – Ruben Loftus-Cheek

Like many players in this list, Ruben Loftus-Cheek has been linked with Newcastle.

While he is featuring more for Chelsea now, that will likely change. But he could become a star at Newcastle, similar to how he was perceived during his Crystal Palace loan spell.

He’s a forward-thinking midfielder who the Magpies should be looking at.

Crystal Palace – Wilfried Zaha

One of the best players outside of the ‘top six’, and a marquee signing who could really prove the new Newcastle United mean business.

Everton – Dominic Calvert-Lewin

Newcastle’s recruitment team reportedly want Dominic Calvert-Lewin, and he could be the perfect strike partner for Callum Wilson.

Strong in the air and capable of running the channels, Calvert-Lewin has added more goals to his game as well, making him a top Premier League striker. It would be difficult for Newcastle, but perhaps they could convince DCL that the Toon project is more ambitious than Everton’s.

Leeds United – Kalvin Phillips

An obvious choice from Leeds United. Kalvin Phillips was a star for England at the Euros, and he’d be a sensational signing by Newcastle.

There’s probably no chance of Phillips signing, as he’s come a long way since he was first linked with the Magpies

Leicester City – Youri Tielemans

It was reported in October that Newcastle want players of a similar calibre to Youri Tielemans. So why not the man himself?

Wildly ambitious and probably a bit realistic, but you never know in football.

Liverpool – Nat Phillips

While not the most exciting options, Nat Phillips could be a sensible addition.

The Liverpool defender has proven he can do a job in the Premier League, while he’d likely thrive in the Championship should the worst happen and we go down.

Manchester City – Nathan Ake

Newcastle need centre-backs, so why not a former Eddie Howe signing?

Nathan Ake hasn’t proved his worth at Manchester City, but he’d walk into our starting XI. The fact he is left-footed is also a bonus.

Manchester United – Jesse Lingard

Another player who Newcastle have been linked with relentlessly.

Lingard could be the perfect January signing for Newcastle, especially if he plays as well as he did for West Ham. However, rumours now suggest he could stay put.

Norwich City – Max Aarons

Newcastle signed a full-back from Norwich in 2020, so why not bring in another in 2022?

Max Aarons has been linked with some big clubs, such is his potential. A strange report from Italy recently linked him with Newcastle, which felt unreliable. Despite that, he would be a good addition.

Southampton – James Ward-Prowse

This would be a highly ambitious and massively unlikely signing. However, James Ward-Prowse is everything we need in a midfielder.

He’s a leader with a great passing range, and his set pieces are some of the best in the Premier League today.

Tottenham Hotspur – Harry Winks

Heavily linked with Newcastle and out of favour at Tottenham, I wouldn’t be surprised if this deal actually happens.

Howe reportedly believes Winks is better than our current midfield options, and it’s hard to disagree.

Watford – Ismaila Sarr

Another player linked with Newcastle, which isn’t surprising giving how many transfer targets we allegedly have.

With Allan Saint-Maximin on one wing and Ismaila Sarr on the other we could be incredibly dangerous.

West Ham United – Aaron Cresswell

Not many West Ham options stick out for Newcastle. Declan Rice would be a dream, but there’s no chance of that.

Perhaps Aaron Cresswell? A good, solid Premier League left-back who has a wealth of experience in the top flight.

Wolves – Conor Coady

Conor Coady is a leader for Wolves, and a vocal presence who would be very welcome at St James’ Park.
