Former Newcastle defender Warren Barton believes the Magpies should sign Tariq Lamptey this summer.
The right-back was one of Brighton’s best players before his season was ended early by injury.
We saw how good he was first hand back in September, when Lamptey was one of Brighton’s best players in a 3-0 thrashing of Newcastle.
At 20-years-old, Lamptey has incredible potential. If anything, it’s surprising Chelsea let him leave last year.

He has incredible pace, which he puts to great use both offensively and defensively.
Lamptey’s season was cut short due to injury, but he impressed enough to catch the eye of teams further up the tabke.
According to Sky Sports, Tottenham are interested in signing the youngster.
That prompted former Newcastle man Barton on Twitter.
Warren Barton still bleeds black and white
As a former right-back himself, Barton knows what it takes to be successful in that position.
He was a great player for Newcastle in the late 90s and early 2000s, making 164 league appearances for the club. He also played three times for England.
The fact he said ‘we’ should get him, rather than just ‘Newcastle should get him’ shows how connected he still is to the club.
However, it seems unlikely that Barton will get his wish.
No chance of Tariq Lamptey coming to Newcastle
While Lamptey is a top player who would improve our squad, he’s likely out of our price range.
The Daily Mail claim Brighton will want a fee in the region of £50million. That would make him more expensive than record signing Joelinton.

Fortunately, Newcastle have their own success story at right wing-back. Jacob Murphy has proven to be a revelation.
He’s added another dimension in attack, scoring key goals and providing important assists throughout the season.
He’s also improving defensively, and is reportedly set to sign a new contract.
