Newcastle United’s transfer hopes have been given a boost as they prepare a key scouting mission this weekend.

Yesterday it was reported that Newcastle had planned for scouts to travel to Argentina to watch Boca Juniors midfielder Kevin Zenon who is impressive some European clubs.

Now, a new report from Ole is claiming that Newcastle won’t have a problem paying the £12m release clause in his contract but that Boca Juniors are hopeful he will stay until the end of the year

Newcastle have funds to sign exciting midfielder

After a January window which only saw 18-year-old Alfie Harrison brought into the club for a fee believed to eventually be around £3.5m, there were some concerns over what Newcastle would have to spend in the summer.

There’s almost an expectation that someone will have to be sold in order to fund future moves, though whether that is a star player or a couple of the ageing players remains to be seen.

However, with Zenon’s fee as low as £12m it shouldn’t be an issue for Newcastle who will have the funds available to make the signing, it’s just whether or not the midfielder wants to make the move.

Zenon only joined Boca Juniors in January but has already impressed at his new club and there’s talks of him making a big move in the summer, but the Argentinian club want to negotiate a new contract to get rid of the release clause.

Newcastle looking to add versatility to their squad

If there’s one thing that Eddie Howe will really want to do this summer it is to add strength in depth to a squad that have been massively impacted by injuries this season.

While it was an unexpected amount of absences, the squad when fully fit is still just a few injuries away from playing a team that’s not yet strong enough to be competing for the Champions League places.

That is why Zenon could be an ideal signing for the 46-year-old manager as he plays traditionally in a midfield role but has the versatility to play as a winger or at left-back as well if needed.

No bid has been submitted yet, but Newcastle are clearly big fans of the young man who could be a key signing for them in the summer.
