Transfer deadline day has been a bit of a non event for Newcastle United, but they have at least made one signing.
It was recently reported that the Magpies had agreed to sign Alfie Harrison from Manchester City, and that move has now become official.
He has joined Newcastle for an undisclosed fee, but the deal could end up costing the Magpies £3.5million in add-ons. Manchester City also have a 40% sell-on clause, as they bid to capitalise on any future move the teenager makes.
Harrison has been brought in to bolster Newcastle’s youth ranks, but the 18-year-old will have ambitions of growing into a first-team player at St James’ Park. That will also be the ambition of Dan Ashworth, who is always keen for young players to rise through the ranks and become Premier League quality, because that means the club do not need to spend as much money on new players.
That will be the hope when it comes to Harrison, who has spoke to the club’s official website about what he wants to bring to Newcastle United.
Alfie Harrison speaks after signing for Newcastle United
Following Alfie Harrison’s move from Man City to Newcastle, the midfielder has spoke to the club’s official website about what he is like as a player.
“I’m really looking forward to what is coming and how I can progress in the coming years,” he said.
“I’m an effective player who can add goals and assists. I really like to create stuff but, on the other side, I’d also say I’m a very passionate player who always wants to win.”

Newcastle need a goalscoring midfielder
Newcastle do not really have a goalscoring midfielder right now. Bruno Guimaraes does not score regularly, while Lewis Miley has only scored once in his career. Sean Longstaff only scores on huge occasions, while Joelinton and Joe Willock get decent numbers but are not consistent in front of goal.
It is an area that Howe will look to address in the coming years, and Harrison’s comments suggest that he could provide the solution.
It will take a lot of work, but he has already proven at youth level how lethal he can be in the final third. Harrison made eight Under-18 Premier League appearances for Man City this season, scoring eight goals and providing four assists.
Those are really impressive numbers, and he will now look to replicate them in black and white. If he can, it will not be long until he is working with the first-team!
