Newcastle United could be set to make one signing on transfer deadline day, but it is not someone who will have an immediate impact on the first-team.
The Magpies have been looking for a midfielder for a long time, and they are finally set to get one. But while targets such as Kalvin Phillips and Amadou Onana would have gone straight into Eddie Howe’s side, that is not going to be the case on this occasion.
It was recently reported that Newcastle had agreed a deal to sign Alfie Harrison from Manchester City. He is a highly rated 18-year-old midfielder, and has made the decision to move to Tyneside after being given a clear path into the Toon first-team.
He is going to be a signing for the future, and now more details of his imminent move to St James’ Park have been reported.

Newcastle set to sign future star Alfie Harrison
According to the Daily Mail, Newcastle are set to sign Harrison from Manchester City, in a deal that could end up costing the Magpies £3.5million.
They state that the initial fee is lower than that, but the deal includes various clauses and a sell-on clause.
The Manchester Evening News’ Simon Bajkowski has provided further details, stating that the sell-on clause is as high as 40%. That is pretty high, and is testament to how highly rated the teenager is.
The deal to sign Harrison could potentially be announced today, with transfer expert Fabrizio Romano stating on X on Wednesday night that the formal documents for the transfer have been signed. He will sign a contract with the Magpies until 2027.
So maybe Newcastle will sign someone on deadline day after all! But it is not the deal that Toon fans are hoping for. They would love a big name to arrive who can have an immediate impact in black and white.
Harrison is not going to do that, but he is clearly someone who the club believe could have a big impact in the future. He is a youth arrival, and someone who will look to rise through the ranks as quickly as possible.
He will be inspired by the emergence of Lewis Miley, who is now a Premier League regular at the age of 17.
