With big money needed to get Ramsdale away from Arsenal, you can rule out a move to Newcastle United this month.

That is hardly the biggest blow, as splashing out on a goalkeeper midway through the season was never likely.

But Ramsdale is a player who Eddie Howe knows, and he is someone who the club have been linked with. Plenty of pundits have talked up the prospect of Ramsdale moving to St James’ Park, with former Toon defender Danny Simpson suggesting that the goalkeeper would be ‘perfect’ for the Magpies.

With money tight on Tyneside right now, there is no chance of Newcastle making the ‘astronomical’ offer that Arsenal are looking for, but do not be surprised if this rumour comes back around when the transfer window opens in the summer.
