Newcastle United have decisions to make in January.
While FFP constraints are likely to limit what they do in the January transfer market, it seems Newcastle want signings.
Indeed, manager Eddie Howe is reportedly keen to strengthen three positions. A goalkeeper, a midfielder and a forward are all said to be on the agenda, although there is little guarantee all of those positions will actually be strengthened.
Kalvin Phillips has been linked on the midfield front, while David de Gea has been touted as a target when it comes to a goalkeeper.
The Spaniard has been without a club since leaving Manchester United last summer, reportedly raising doubts at St James’ Park.
There is thought to be a worry that the 33-year-old will not be up to speed, having played such little football recently.
It seems, however, that the veteran is doing all he can behind the scenes.
David de Gea: Newcastle transfer latest
According to The Athletic, de Gea is keeping himself fit.
They claim the former Spanish international is doing football-focused training three to four times a week and is now potentially fitter than he had been in recent years.

David de Gea to Newcastle: A risk worth taking?
Hailed as “world class” during his time at Man United, signing de Gea would not be without an element of risk.
Not only has he not played in recent months but the final few months of his time at Old Trafford were littered by a string of high-profile errors.
Still, he is clearly not without his merits, having kept the most clean sheets in the Premier League last season.
With Martin Dubravka hardly covering himself in glory since stepping in for the injured Nick Pope, Newcastle may need to act.
If de Gea can be tempted to the club on reasonable wages, perhaps it’s a risk worth taking.
