Key points
Welcome to the Newcastle United transfer news blog, keeping you across the latest updates amid links with the likes of Ousmane Diomande, Joao Pedro and James Trafford.
It has been a rather slow start to the transfer window for Newcastle United fans, who are desperate to see the club start to sign players once more. Recent days, however, have brought more promising news.
Newcastle’s transfer budget could be £150million, so it seems likely they will strengthen Eddie Howe’s squad at last and a big summer really could be ahead. Diomande has long been linked with the club, along with both Pedro and Trafford.
Newcastle are likely to move for Diomande should Sporting CP make him available, with Howe keen to bolster his defensive options. Furthermore, reports suggest Newcastle are ahead of Chelsea in the race to sign Pedro.
Newcastle want to sign James Trafford as well, although it remains to be seen if they can do a deal with Burnley. Anthony Elanga is a Newcastle transfer target too, though Nottingham Forest are ready to hold out for a big fee.
Geordie Boot Boys will keep you up to date on all the latest Newcastle United transfer news as the club look to kick off their business with a bang.

[Link]Sean Longstaff exit update at Newcastle United look to sell
According to journalist Joel Bland on social media platform X, Newcastle United are likely to sanction player exits towards the later stages of the window.
He suggests that Longstaff is amongst the potential departures, amid links with Leeds United and Everton.
However, Bland adds that there isn’t a huge amount of advanced interest at this stage.

Who is Newcastle United transfer target Ousmane Diomande?
Diomande is an Ivorian central defender who joined Sporting CP from Danish side FC Midtjylland in 2023.
He won two league titles under current Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim in Lisbon and has been linked with a host of other Premier League clubs.
In 2023, Amorim said of the defender: “Diomande plays with both feet, and is very physically strong.
He is a very talented player and most people don’t know how many clubs were after him…Diomande is fast and I wanted a strong player for duels and with the ability to have the ball…”

Joao Pedro could become one of Newcastle United’s most expensive players
Paying Joao Pedro’s reported price tag of £60million would make the Brazilian one of Newcastle United’s most expensive ever players.
In fact, at that price, the only player more expensive in the history of Newcastle United Football Club would be Alexander Isak.
The striker joined for £63million in 2022, but no other player has ever topped the £60million mark at St James’ Park.
[Link]Will Newcastle United move for Bryan Mbeumo after transfer hijack?
Bryan Mbeumo was a leading Newcastle United transfer target earlier this summer, but the club were priced out of a move.
Newcastle thought Mbeumo was too expensive and it looked for all the world as if the Brentford star was heading for Manchester United instead.
However, according to The Chronicle, Tottenham could yet hijack that move following the appointment of Thomas Frank as manager.
It’s suggested that Newcastle are still not in the race due to Mbeumo’s wage demands.

Anthony Gordon market value amid Liverpool rumours
For the second summer in a row, Newcastle United star Anthony Gordon is being linked with a move away from the club.
Liverpool almost signed the winger in 2024 but he stayed at Newcastle, enduring a mixed season after an impressive breakout campaign during the 2023/24 season.
Despite fresh links with a move to Anfield, however, Newcastle do not need to sell Gordon this summer.
In fact, it’s said that Newcastle value Gordon at around £100million, meaning the Reds would have to break the bank to sign him.

Eddie Howe has already explained why Newcastle United won’t sign Jadon Sancho
Jadon Sancho is the latest shock name to be linked with a move to Newcastle United.
Newcastle have been linked with Sancho, though it feels like a move beyond the club’s means right now.
Indeed, while there is thought to be money to spend this summer, Eddie Howe has made it clear that the club simply cannot go out and sign established players already on huge wages.
After the final game of the season against Everton, Howe said: “If you’re talking about someone at the very top, who is already established, then I think the wages and the financial package becomes difficult for us,” said Howe.
When Newcastle United plan to hold talks with Alexander Isak
Another key part of Newcastle United’s summer business simply has to be securing Alexander Isak’s long-term future.
While the Sweden international has three years to run on his contract, Isak’s agents are reportedly pushing for new terms considering all the success he’s had over the past two seasons.
According to The Daily Telegraph, the club will hold talks with Isak later this summer about improving his contract, which would feel like a major step towards shutting down all the speculation for a while.

Newcastle United make decisive James Trafford decision
Geordie Boot Boys understands Newcastle United are not prepared to go over the £30million mark to sign Burnley goalkeeper James Trafford.
The England international has been a target for the club since the summer of 2024 but they have so far been unable to do a deal with the Clarets.
While Eddie Howe is keen to bring the 22-year-old to St James’ Park, they will not be held to ransom.

Newcastle United set to step up Joao Pedro bid
Brighton’s Joao Pedro is another name strongly linked with a move to Newcastle United.
The Brazilian came close to a move in 2022 but stayed at Watford before joining Brighton.
Now, however, he could be set to finally link up with Eddie Howe. According to The Daily Telegraph, the Toon Army are ready to accelerate their attempts to land the forward this summer, amid a belief a deal can be done.

Newcastle United ‘likely’ to make move for Ousmane Diomande
Newcastle United want to sign a new central defender this summer, and have been linked with Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi again.
Still, the England international isn’t the only centre-back who has been touted as a target.
According to The Daily Telegraph, they have frequently scouted Sporting CP star Ousmane Diomande and would “likely” be at the table should the Lisbon giants indicate they are willing to sell.
