Newcastle United star Anthony Gordon almost left the club last summer.

Gordon emerged as one of Newcastle United’s best players last season but wasn’t certain to stay at St James’ Park due to the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR).

Indeed, the club needed to raise money and Gordon was close to joining Liverpool in 2024 but ultimately stayed on Tyneside, with Elliot Anderson and Yankuba Minteh leaving instead.

The 24-year-old has since signed a new contract at Newcastle during a strange season for him. At times, Gordon has been brilliant but injuries and a high-profile red card that ruled him out of the Carabao Cup final have not made things easy.

Still, few would doubt his quality and some insight into just how highly he’s rated behind the scenes has emerged.

Anthony Gordon market value amid Arsenal interest

According to The Daily Telegraph, Arsenal admire Gordon. The Gunners appear to like quite a few Newcastle players, given that Arsenal are interested in signing Alexander Isak.

Still, as is the case with the Sweden international, Newcastle have no plans to sell Gordon.

The former Everton star has three years to run on his contract and it’s said only the offer of “ridiculous” money would tempt Newcastle into selling him.

In fact, the report adds that Newcastle would want at least £100million for Gordon.

Anthony Gordon responds after Eddie Howe sets out Newcastle United demand

The England international struggled to get back into the team following his red card against Brighton in the FA Cup back in March.

Harvey Barnes was selected over him and has impressed, outscoring Gordon with nine goals to six.

Eddie Howe told Gordon he needed to impress off the bench for Newcastle, and he appears to have done exactly that.

He brought energy to the team during the crucial Premier League draw with the Seagulls before playing a vital role against Chelsea last week.

It’s not been the easiest of seasons for Gordon but he’s clearly a huge asset to Newcastle.
