It looks like things are finally about to get going for Newcastle United in the summer transfer window and here are the squad numbers available for new signings.
Newcastle United are aiming to improve Eddie Howe’s squad significantly this summer ahead of their return to the Champions League, knowing they struggled to compete on multiple fronts last time.
However, even though Newcastle have more room to spend within PSR restrictions this summer, it’s been a slow start to the transfer window.
Newcastle have missed out on top targets like Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Joao Pedro, but it now looks like there has at last been some progress.
Anthony Elanga is set to sign for Newcastle in a £55m deal, while James Trafford isn’t thought to be too far behind.
When they eventually arrive at St. James’ Park, they will need squad numbers and two more have become available following Callum Wilson’s departure and the release of Jamal Lewis.
Here is every available shirt number at Newcastle and there aren’t too many.

Newcastle United available kit numbers
3
The No.3 has been available at Newcastle since Paul Dummett’s departure in 2024. A new full-back isn’t high on the list of targets this summer but a left-back could be needed given Lewis Hall’s injury, especially if Kieran Trippier departs.
It would be the perfect number for such a signing.
9
Callum Wilson’s exit means the famous No.9 is available again for a striker to try and live up to the Alan Shearer legend.
Elanga might claim the number once his transfer is confirmed but Alexander Isak could always swap from his No.14 to it as well.
12
Jamal Lewis has left the club and his No.12 shirt has now become available.
15
Harvey Barnes wore No.15 in his first season in the North East before swapping to the No.11 last summer after Matt Ritchie’s exit. It remains vacant.
16
No one has worn No.16 at Newcastle since Jeff Hendrick left the club in 2022. It would be well-suited to a midfielder or forward signing.
24
Miguel Almiron’s tearful exit in January means the No.24 is up for grabs for the first time since 2018. It was also worn by Andy Carroll, Peter Lovenkrands and Cheik Tiote in the past.
25
Lloyd Kelly wore the No.25 after signing last summer but only on a few occasions, as he left for Juventus in January and his loan move has now become permanent.
27
No.27 was most famously worn by Steven Taylor at Newcastle but it hasn’t been worn since 2022.
Many numbers over 30 are also available apart from 33, 36, 39 and 67.
