A new striker will be on Newcastle United’s shopping list heading into this summer’s transfer window.

Eddie Howe warned of “staleness” in January after he went another window without receiving a single first-team signing.

But Newcastle’s patient approach to transfer business should come to an end this summer after the club freed up some flexibility under the Profit and Sustainability Rules.

Newcastle United offered chance to sign Samu Aghehowa

Towards the end of February, reports suggested Newcastle have an interest in Samu Aghehowa.

The 20-year-old has been in great form for Porto this season, scoring 20 goals in all competitions for the title-chasing Portuguese outfit.

Only Sporting Lisbon’s Viktor Gyokeres has scored more than Aghehowa in the Portuguese league this season.

Now, The Chronicle claim that Newcastle have been offered Aghehowa ahead of the summer transfer window.

There is an £82.5m release clause attached to Aghehowa’s Porto contract, but there is a chance Newcastle could negotiate a fee below that figure in the summer.

Newcastle could, however, face competition from Premier League rivals West Ham, Arsenal and Aston Villa who have all kept tabs on the young forward.

Samu Aghehowa is an Olympic gold medalist

Aghehowa is currently chasing his first league title in football with Porto just six points off the top spot in Liga Portugal this season.

He will hope to add more silverware to sit alongside the Olympic gold medal he won in the recent 2024 Paris Olympics.

Aghehowa was part of the Spain squad that went on to win Olympic gold last year, beating France 5-3 in the finals.He made four appearances and scored one goal during their run to gold.

Just a few months later in November 2024, Aghehowa was called up to Spain’s senior national team and he made his debut in a 3-2 win over Switzerland.

If Newcastle need a long-term heir to Isak at St James’ Park, they may have found the perfect match.
