Newcastle United fans are anticipating the departures of several longstanding stars in the summer.
The January transfer window was a minor clearout for Eddie Howe’s side. In the summer, it could be a lot bigger.
Newcastle United have a slew of players who are out of contract at the end of the season – and there has been no sign that they will all stay on. Fabian Schar is in talks with Newcastle over a new deal, but the likes of Callum Wilson could still depart with no news on negotiations.
Toon shot-stopper Martin Dubravka rejected Al-Shabab to stay at Newcastle until the end of the season. The Slovakian international has had a fine season between the sticks since coming in for Nick Pope, so much so that he has kept his place in Howe’s starting XI, despite Pope being back fit again.
Sporting director Paul Mitchell has the task of selling players who do not have a future at the club. Recent reports have stated that Sean Longstaff will leave Newcastle in the summer with Everton as a likely suitor.
With the upcoming transfer window expected to be a busy one, Newcastle expect another star to leave the club which would free up a lot of room in the wage department.

Newcastle expect Kieran Trippier to leave in the summer
Newcastle defender Kieran Trippier lost his place to Tino Livramento in the first half of the season. The 34-year-old has enjoyed a run in Newcastle’s starting XI in recent weeks, but his latest performance against Manchester City could be the beginning of the end for him.
Newcastle fans blasted Trippier, who went off at half-time in the Magpies 4-0 defeat to Man City on Saturday. The former Newcastle captain’s frustrations were apparent when he was seen berating Fabian Schar after conceding the second goal of the afternoon.
Now, according to Ben Jacobs via GiveMeSport, Trippier could leave Newcastle in the summer for more game time.
Jacobs said: “Newcastle will now be very understanding of opportunities for Kieran Trippier in the summer and because he’s not getting that regular game time, because Tino Livramento has embedded himself as the starting right-back in the league, Trippier is still expected to leave Newcastle in the summer.”
It looked as if Trippier was joining Galatasaray in January – the Turkish giants even placed a bid in the latter stages of the window but Trippier wants to stay to be a part of the Magpies Carabao Cup final against Liverpool in March.
Howe was ‘desperate’ to keep Trippier until the end of the season at least with the defender being branded as ‘elite’ by George Caulkin in February.
Kieran Trippier has been a good servant to Newcastle
While things have not gone to plan for Trippier this season, fans will agree that he has been a great servant to the club since joining in 2022.
The 34-year-old was Newcastle’s first signing after the historic takeover in 2021, making an immediate impact on Howe’s squad. Trippier became Newcastle’s captain for the 2022/23 season and guided the club back to the Champions League for the first time in 20 years.
Since joining, Trippier has made 111 appearances in all competitions, scoring four goals and bagging 21 assists.
His influence has been felt by players throughout Newcastle’s first-team squad. In a recent interview, Lewis Hall called Trippier a ‘role model’ for his career and the way he inspires the younger players in training.
It will be the end of an era when Trippier leaves – but now it looks like his time on Tyneside is coming to a close.
