Newcastle United are close to agreeing two new contract deals ahead of the summer transfer window.

A quiet January transfer window gave sporting director Paul Mitchell a chance to focus on contract renewals at Newcastle United.

As things stand, nine Newcastle players could leave for free in 2025 with their contracts due to expire in the summer.

While a handful of players will be expected to leave in the summer, Mitchell and Eddie Howe will want to tie some down to new deals.

Newcastle also plan to offer Alexander Isak a new deal at the end of the season in an attempt to end speculation about his future at the club. Hopefully, progress is made in the next few months.

Newcastle United expect two contracts to be finalised soon

While talks with Isak will take time, there are two deals that Newcastle are confident about completing soon.

As per The Athletic’s Chris Waugh, there is an expectation at Newcastle that Fabian Schar and Emil Krafth will extend their current deals.

Neither player has agreed to a new deal yet, but discussions have been ongoing and there is a growing confidence that they will both stay put at St James’ Park.

Jamaal Lascelles is another player who is currently set to leave in the summer, and Waugh explains that his contract situation is slightly more “complicated”.

The 31-year-old is currently recovering from an anterior cruciate ligament problem and Newcastle’s decision on whether to hand him a new deal will depend on how he is physically on his return.

How much do Emil Krafth and Fabian Schar earn at Newcastle?

If Krafth and Schar do extend their Newcastle deals as expected, they will likely remain on the same terms as before.

Currently, Krafth earns £55,000 per week at Newcastle while Schar earns less with a weekly wage of £45,000.

With Newcastle wanting to keep a lid on their PSR concerns, both players are relatively small earners in the current squad and will not threaten the club’s budget at all.

Keeping wages under control will be essential during Newcastle’s rise to the top, and it also frees up money to be offered to Isak during negotiations.

Isak wants to be Newcastle’s top earner if he is to sign a new deal, and frankly, it’s quite hard to suggest he doesn’t deserve that title.
