Newcastle United made it two straight losses in the Premier League after being embarrassed against Manchester City.
The Magpies were not at the races on Saturday and Eddie Howe will know that. With a difficult few weeks on the horizon, Newcastle United desperately needed a win against Manchester City to keep morale high.
The game was all but over at half time after former Newcastle target Omar Marmoush scored a hat-trick to show Howe and sporting director Paul Mitchell what they missed out on.
Matters were worsened when James McAtee, another Newcastle target, scored Man City’s fourth to finally kill the game off.
Fans will undoubtedly be pleased to see Harvey Barnes back in Newcastle’s first-team squad following a spell on the sidelines with a muscle issue. However, Howe was without Sven Botman for Newcastle’s defeat to Man City as he continues to recover from a knee injury.
While Newcastle picks themselves up after a humiliating loss – fans have taken to social media to berate a player who struggled throughout the afternoon.

Newcastle fans blast Kieran Trippier after Manchester City loss
Kieran Trippier has had a tough season so far. The 34-year-old has played 18 games in all competitions this season, but his 45-minute appearance against Man City may go down as his worst.
Trippier was at fault for Man City’s first goal after he tried to intercept a ball he did not need to win. The former Newcastle captain berated Fabian Schar after the second goal and was unable to do anything for the third. Howe decided to replace Trippier with Tino Livramento at half time.
Newcastle fans reacted to Trippier’s woeful performance on X.
“Well done Livramento… done more in five minutes than Trippier did all first half.” said one fan. While another added: “Embarrassing performance reminded me of why I hate Trippier so much.”
This Newcastle fan took aim at Trippier’s ability to play at the highest level, saying: “Kieran Trippier should not be playing in the Premier League anymore. This has been absolutely pathetic.”
“Trippier has let himself and teammates down. He should not be starting over Tino (Livramento).” said one agitated Newcastle fan.
Another fan added: “Trippier screaming on the 3rd goal is making me sick. He’s been the worst on the pitch by a long distance and that defending on the first goal is disgusting.”
Finally, this fan said: “Trippier with some of the worst defending you’ll ever see, like a Sunday league player.”
This season could be Kieran Trippier’s last at Newcastle
At 34, Trippier is no spring chicken – he has enjoyed a recent run in Newcastle’s starting XI but has Livramento ready to pounce on the opportunity to become Newcastle’s first-choice right-back for years to come.
Trippier has been linked with a Newcastle exit for the last 12 months – there was even a bid placed for him during the January transfer window.
Newcastle rejected Galatasaray’s Trippier offer to ensure they still had a good amount of depth until the end of the season. The defender is one of Newcastle’s highest earners on £120,000-a-week which would be a big boost to the Magpies transfer kitty if he were to leave.
In the summer, Trippier requested to leave Newcastle in pursuit of a move abroad. Clubs in Turkey were interested in the former England international but the move never came.
Trippier’s contract runs out at the end of next season, so the summer window could be the last chance to bag a transfer fee for him. It is clear now that Newcastle must soon prepare for life without Trippier.
