Newcastle United now want Bryan Mbeumo’s strike partner at Brentford

Bryan Mbeumo is one of Newcastle United’s top targets but he is not the only Brentford star on the club’s radar.

Heading into the January transfer window, it was no secret that Newcastle United’s top priority was a right-sided winger.

The need to sign a new winger has only increased since Miguel Almiron’s £11m move to MLS side Atlanta United this month.

However, PIF plan to save the Almiron cash until the summer, meaning Newcastle will likely wait until the end of the season to pursue their top targets.

Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo is Newcastle’s dream signing, but Liverpool are also showing interest in Mbeumo. Newcastle do have a back-up plan if they miss out on Bryan Mbeumo, though.

Newcastle United interested in Yoane Wissa

Despite losing Newcastle target Ivan Toney last season, Brentford have coped brilliantly without the Englishman.

Mbeumo currently leads Brentford’s scoring charts this season with 14, while Yoane Wissa follows closely behind with 11 goals. The striker duo have been superb for the Bees this campaign.

According to journalist Ben Jacobs, Newcastle are showing an interest in Wissa as well as Mbeumo ahead of a potential swoop in 2025.

“If we’re looking more at more attack-minded targets, I think the two Brentford guys – Yoane Wissa and Bryan Mbeumo,” Jacobs said via the NUFC Matters YouTube channel.

“We know that Liverpool are looking at Mbeumo as well. I think Antoine Semenyo might come into Newcastle’s thinking as well.”

Yoane Wissa could replace Callum Wilson at Newcastle

While Mbeumo would likely be brought in as a winger, Wissa is more of a centre-forward at Brentford.

The 28-year-old has played the majority of his football this season in a central striker position with Mbeumo supporting him from the right.

Callum Wilson faces an uncertain future at Newcastle and the Magpies are on the lookout for a striker to support and challenge Alexander Isak. That is where Wissa would fit into Eddie Howe’s plans.

However, it seems unlikely that Brentford would sell both Mbeumo and Wissa at the same time – especially to the same club.

A right winger has to be the priority in the summer, so Newcastle will likely prefer a deal for Mbeumo rather than his striker partner.
