It’s now even more obvious who the perfect signing is for Newcastle United after the Callum Wilson news

Newcastle United have been rocked by another Callum Wilson injury blow.

The 32-year-old had only just returned to full fitness, appearing on the bench for Newcastle United’s previous four games.

It was a huge boost to have Callum Wilson fit and available, providing support for Alexander Isak.

However, that support has suddenly disappeared, as the Daily Mail have reported that Wilson will now miss two months of action with a hamstring injury.

The news is infuriating for everyone associated with the Magpies, while it has been reported that Wilson’s injury will not change Newcastle’s January transfer plans.

They are not going to prioritise a striker. Instead, Newcastle’s priority is to sign a right winger.

Newcastle’s dream signing is now even more perfect

And that is why Newcastle’s ‘dream’ signing Bryan Mbeumo is suddenly even more perfect for Eddie Howe.

The 25-year-old has been heavily linked with a move to St James’ Park, and he proved why he would be such a good signing for Newcastle on Saturday during Brentford’s 4-2 win.

Mbeumo scored the Bees’ first goal against Newcastle – a stunning strike as he cut in from the right flank. He also got an assist, with Thomas Frank calling Mbeumo ‘unplayable’ after the game.

He is the type of player that could transform Newcastle’s attack, while the Wilson injury news means that Mbeumo could be even more valuable. As well as being a winger, Mbeumo can also play as a central striker.

If Newcastle were able to bring Mbeumo to Tyneside, they would kill two birds with one stone. Eddie Howe would have the right winger he craves, as well as a bit of extra cover through the middle.

Why Newcastle United will not sign Bryan Mbeumo

But while Mbeumo has the versatility and talent that Newcastle United are looking for, a Toon transfer in January does not appear to be on the cards.

It has been reported that Paul Mitchell has changed Newcastle’s transfer strategy, with the club moving away from targeting proven Premier League players whose fees are overinflated. It has been claimed that Mbeumo will cost at least £50million, which is more than Newcastle can afford to pay in January.

Newcastle know Mbeumo will be expensive, which has resulted in them looking further afield.

Johan Bakayoko is a Newcastle transfer target, with Eddie Howe a fan of the PSV Eindhoven attacker.

However, it remains to be seen if a winger who can also play as a striker, like Mbeumo, will suddenly be more appealing in light of Callum Wilson’s latest injury.
