After missing out on Michael Olise, Newcastle United could now get an alternative for around half the price.
Newcastle have a £100million transfer budget this summer, most of which is expected to go towards a new right winger.
Michael Olise was initially a target for the Magpies, with Newcastle contacting Crystal Palace about a deal. Olise had a £60million release clause, and it would appear that Newcastle were willing to pay it – if not, why did they bother contacting Palace in the first place?
In the end, it did not matter. Olise opted to sign for Bayern Munich, who had the lure of Champions League football.
Newcastle have had to look elsewhere, but their search has been fruitless so far. Jarrod Bowen to Newcastle is a non-starter, while rumours regarding Noni Madueke have gone quiet.
Nico Gonzalez on Newcastle’s radar
Nico Gonzalez is the latest player linked with Newcastle United.

It was reported last week that the Magpies had made an offer for the 26-year-old, who currently plays for Fiorentina in Serie A.
Gonzalez is on the back of winning the Copa America with Argentina, and could potentially be rewarded with a move to the Premier League if Newcastle get their wish.
How much Newcastle must pay for Gonzalez
Now a new report in Italy has provided an update on the Gonzalez situation, sharing details of how much Newcastle must pay to sign a winger who has been described as ‘very intelligent‘ and likened to Bernardo Silva.
According to La Nazione, Newcastle have been informed that they must pay between £25million and £30million to sign Gonzalez.
That is quite a reasonable fee for a player who scored 16 goals in all competitions last season.
La Nazione add that Atletico Madrid are also keen, while the attacker has interest from Saudi Arabia too.
That could cause problems for Newcastle, depending on Gonzalez’s motivation. If he is determined to play in the Champions League then Atletico will be in pole position, but a club in Saudi Arabia could be best placed to secure his signature if he is more eager to significantly increase his wages.
In contrast, Newcastle can offer an exciting project and the chance to be a regular starter for a club that is aiming to return to the Champions League. And for around £30million, a deal could be a no-brainer for the Magpies.
If they were to spend that amount on a winger, it would allow the club invest more money elsewhere. That could help Newcastle bring in a striker, as they aim to provide Alexander Isak with more cover.
