The reason why Newcastle United missed out on signing Michael Olise as Bayern Munich announce deal

Newcastle United have officially missed out on Michael Olise.

The Magpies showed an interest in signing the 22-year-old earlier this summer, and even contacted Crystal Palace about bringing him to St James’ Park.

Michael Olise was viewed as the ideal candidate to join Alexander Isak and Anthony Gordon in attack by Eddie Howe, which is why Newcastle went to battle with some of Europe’s biggest clubs to secure his signature.

The likes of Bayern Munich and Chelsea also made a move for a player with a £60million release clause, and it was immediately evident that it would be tough to convince Olise to move to Tyneside.

Newcastle’s interest in Michael Olise is definitely over now

That has proven to be the case, with the winger deciding to leave the Eagles and sign for Bayern Munich.

A deal was agreed with the Bundesliga giants last month, and now Olise has officially been unveiled as a Bayern Munich player.

Following the announcement, Olise expressed his delight at signing for the biggest club in Germany.

He told Bayern’s official website: “The talks with FC Bayern were very positive, and I’m very happy to now be playing for such a big club. It’s a great challenge, and that’s exactly what I was looking for. I want to prove myself at this level and play my part in ensuring that we win as many titles as possible with our team in the coming years.”

Why Olise opted to sign for Bayern Munich

Olise has joined a massive club in Bayern Munich, and there is no shame in Newcastle United losing out to them in this transfer race.

It was always going to be difficult to sign Olise ahead of clubs like this, and that has proven to be the case.

Now journalist Ben Jacobs has taken to X to provide details on why the attacker has decided to sign for Bayern Munich ahead of a club like Newcastle United.

Shortly before Olise was unveiled as a Bayern player, Jacobs wrote: “Appeal of Champions League a big factor in the move. Olise was also given guarantees he could play in the Olympics, with it now confirmed that he is in Thierry Henry’s final squad.”

No Europe cost Newcastle

With Newcastle having no European football to offer, it was always going to be an uphill battle to get Olise to swap Crystal Palace for Newcastle.

While the Toon project is massively exciting, other clubs have their own projects that are just as appealing.

Olise has opted to be part of Bayern’s, which will include competing in this season’s Champions League for the first time in his career.

Newcastle must now look elsewhere

With Newcastle missing out on Olise, the Magpies must take their attacker search elsewhere. However, it remains to be seen who they will target.

A lot of Howe’s forward targets will be difficult to obtain. Nico Williams is an amazing player but will command huge wages, and has his eyes on a move to Barcelona. Jarrod Bowen will be too expensive. Leeds United may no longer need to sell, which could scupper any bid for Crysencio Summerville.

The Magpies are looking for a player to take their attack to the next level, which was never going to be easy. That is proving to be the case, but the club do have time on their side, while they have also been boosted by the arrival of Paul Mitchell as sporting director.
