Newcastle United are looking to sign a new centre-back this summer and have their eyes on Crystal Palace star Marc Guehi.

Eddie Howe’s back line has been solid for a large portion of the season, but there are growing concerns over the ages of centre-back partners Dan Burn and Fabian Schar.

The pair are now 32 and 34, respectively. While they are both enjoying their best seasons since joining the club, it is clear that the time is right to begin looking for their replacements.

Sven Botman is the likely heir to Burn’s spot in Newcastle United’s starting XI, but there is still no centre-back to take Schar’s place. Jamaal Lascelles signed a new deal at Newcastle in April, but the 31-year-old’s lengthy injury layoff is sure to be a cause for concern amongst the fanbase.

Newcastle want Marc Guehi this summer after it was revealed that the England international will leave Crystal Palace this summer. Sporting director Paul Mitchell will be keen on bringing Guehi to Tyneside after being embarrassed during the summer transfer window.

While Guehi will be high on Mitchell’s list of transfer targets this summer, a new transfer report has shared the Magpies have returned to AC Milan with the hope of signing one player. In the meantime, they could sign someone else from the Serie A side for a cut-price deal.

Newcastle United ask for information on Fikayo Tomori

Defender Fikayo Tomori has endured a strange season with AC Milan. The 27-year-old was completely frozen out by former manager Paulo Fonseca before returning to the starting XI under new manager Rodrigo Conceicao.

Newcastle wanted Tomori during the January transfer window when his future looked in some serious doubt. However, the Englishman stayed in Italy to finish the season.

Despite a rumoured exit, Tomori confirmed he feels ‘at home’ in Milan and was not looking for a change.

According to MilanLive, Newcastle recently made contact with Milan to ‘ask for information’ on Tomori. The report claims that the England international is happy in Milan, but his future at the club is in doubt.

In the same report, it was revealed that Malick Thiaw has a £23.8m price tag this summer. Newcastle were in talks for Thiaw in 2024, but the German defender ultimately decided to stay in Milan for the 2024/25 campaign.

At just 23, Thiaw could be a fantastic long-term centre-back for Newcastle.

Newcastle United can offer Fikayo Tomori something AC Milan can’t

Tomori is in a situation where he can return to England this summer with a wealth of experience from his time away. It may be the right time for him to do so, given what is currently happening on the pitch in Milan.

I Rossoneri currently find themselves ninth in Serie A with just three games to go. They need to win all their remaining matches and hope the teams above them lose to stand a chance of qualifying for Champions League football.

Tomori is undoubtedly a player who expects to be in Europe’s top competition every season, but there is a good chance Milan may fail to do so.

Newcastle are close to achieving Champions League qualification with just three games left in the Premier League. Champions League football is considered a ‘game-changer’ at Newcastle, with the belief from staff being that more high-profile players would be open to joining the club if they finished in the top five.

It is very possible that Tomori could be one of those players.
