Newcastle United’s slow start the summer transfer window could soon be set to change with Paul Mitchell now at the helm.
Eddie Howe‘s side officially kick off their pre-season on Saturday with their first friendly against Hull City.
However, the Newcastle manager will only have Lloyd Kelly and two backup goalkeepers to showcase in front of the travelling Toon fans.
Change has unfolded on Tyneside but not so much in terms of Howe’s squad with the developments taking place away from the pitch.
Paul Mitchell has now arrived as the new sporting director after replacing Dan Ashworth as he looks to get the Magpies going in the market.
And there is one player who is on Newcastle’s radar whose agents have been working on a potential deal for months.

Newcastle target’s agents are working hard to finalise deal
The Toon are also going to be playing the Championship outfit on Saturday without some of their top players who are still enjoying their summer break.
Players like Bruno Guimaraes will not be in the matchday squad following his involvement in this summer’s Copa America.
However, the biggest concern for those travelling fans is likely going to be the lack of signings with the new season just weeks away now.
Newcastle haven’t stood still in the market, but there are yet to be any major improvements to Howe’s starting XI.
According to Calciomercato, AC Milan defender Malick Thiaw has seen his agents working hard for months to secure him a Premier League move.
The 22-year-old’s agents were even working back in the January window to sniff out any prospect of a move to England.
Thiaw is a player who Howe is claimed to be a huge admirer of this summer with AC Milan aware of Newcastle’s interest in their centre-back.
It is looking increasingly likely Milan are about to bring in a new centre-back with Strahinja Pavlovic set to make the move to the San Siro.
How close is Malick Thiaw to joining Newcastle?
Newcastle are in talks with AC Milan to sign Malick Thiaw this summer with Howe showing a real interest in the defender.
It is even claimed there is a growing confidence Newcastle are going to be able to secure an agreement with the Serie A giants for Thiaw.
A compromise may be needed from Milan for Newcastle to do so with around a £10m difference in talks for Thiaw currently between the two clubs.
The only potential issue if Newcastle do secure a deal for the ‘simply brilliant‘ Thiaw is he is now unlikely to be signed in time for their trip to Japan next week.
