Newcastle United are keeping tabs on AC Milan star Fikayo Tomori.
Paul Mitchell’s work is underway to improve Newcastle’s first-team squad. No signings have been made in the first week of the January transfer window, but there has not been a shortage of reported interest.
Newcastle have been linked with Fikayo Tomori, who played all 90 minutes in AC Milan’s 2-1 win against Juventus in the Italian Super Cup semi-final on Friday. He will be in contention to play in the final against Inter Milan on Monday.
Tomori had not been a part of Milan’s starting XI since October. The defender has only played 13 minutes of Serie A football since October.
His fortunes may have changed after Sergio Conceicao replaced previous head coach Paolo Fonseca, who had seemingly frozen the 27-year-old out of the squad for an extended period.

Milan to make Tomori decision in coming days
Juventus are also keen on a move for Tomori, who has made 16 appearances in all competitions this season. A blow for the Italian giants is that Tomori is keen to return to England having left Chelsea in 2022.
Tomori will be available for around £31.5million in January, but his future depends on what Conceicao’s plans are for him.
According to Italian journalist Giovanni Albanese, a decision will be made regarding Tomori’s future after the Italian Super Cup final on Monday.
Juventus are looking to strengthen their back line following a long-term injury setback to Bremer, who is not expected back until April. They have identified Tomori as an ideal replacement for him.
Newcastle have struggled with their own injury problems at the back. Sven Botman has only just returned following a 10-month absence, while Jamaal Lascelles remains sidelined with an ACL problem.
How does Fikayo Tomori compare to Fabian Schar?
There is no questioning Tomori’s quality. Even with a lack of game time this season, he has still made his mark in Serie A.
Tomori was part of Milan’s Scudetto-winning side in 2021, during a loan from Chelsea before signing the next summer.
| Appearances (All competitions) | Tackles/90 | Interceptions/90 | Goals | |
| Fikayo Tomori | 16 | 0.8 | 0.8 | 0 |
| Fabian Schar | 20 | 0.9 | 1.5 | 4 |
The defender would be a replacement for Fabian Schar, who is out of contract at the end of the season. Despite his great performances this season, the Swiss international is now 33-years-old, so Howe and Mitchell are in a position where they need to plan for the future.
