Newcastle United are hoping to sign AC Milan defender Fikayo Tomori in January.
The January transfer window is in full swing now and Newcastle are keen to make additions.
Sporting director Paul Mitchell has his work cut out for him as he must battle the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules and work on a number of outgoings before looking at having players come to Tyneside.
Work is underway with it looking likely that Miguel Almiron will leave in this window – a Brazilian top-flight club have placed a bid for the 30-year-old.
Milan defender Tomori is on Newcastle’s radar but there are other clubs interested in his services. Juventus and Napoli have both enquired about a move in January.
Now, football transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has shared an important update on Tomori’s future amid talk of his departure from AC Milan.

Tomori’s future depends on Sergio Conceicao
The Englishman has been limited to just 13 minutes of Serie A football since October after falling out of favour with Paolo Fonseca who has since left Milan.
Fonseca was replaced by former Porto boss Sergio Conceicao who was linked to Newcastle in 2019 following the departure of Rafael Benitez.
With most of European football now in a winter break, Conceicao is yet to manage his first game for Milan so Tomori’s future is still unknown. The 27-year-old is thought to be available for around £31.5million in January.
Now, Romano is suggesting that his future depends on the new manager.
Talking on GIVEMESPORT, Romano was asked about Tomori’s AC Milan future.
“No news on this so far,” he said.
“Tomori’s future depends on Sergio Conceicao now, as he was not a key player under former manager Paulo Fonseca.
“Let’s see what Milan decide to do now with their new manager.”
Tomori joined Milan in 2022 from Chelsea after a successful loan spell, he has gone on to make 116 Serie A appearances for the club.
Tomori would prefer a move back to England
It’s advantage Newcastle in the race to sign the 27-year-old. Despite interest from Italy, Tomori is keen on returning to England following discussions with his agent who is now testing the waters over a potential move.
Should Tomori be signed by Newcastle it would be considered a replacement for the likes of Fabian Schar and Jamaal Lascelles who are entering the twilight of their careers and are both out of contract at the end of the season.
| Age | |
| Fikayo Tomori | 27 |
| Jamaal Lascelles | 31 |
| Fabian Schar | 33 |
| Dan Burn | 32 |
| Sven Botman | 24 |
The Magpies are keen to sign a defender in January after failing to secure Marc Guehi in the summer. Sven Botman’s return is also imminent, so Newcastle could have a completely different back line to what they began the season with.
Tomori’s signing would also mean three of Newcastle’s starting back four have a link to Chelsea with Lewis Hall and Tino Livramento also spending time at the London-based club.
