Newcastle United are gearing up for the January transfer window and have targets in mind.

It will be sporting director Paul Mitchell’s first full transfer window after joining Newcastle in July and he will be keen to hit the ground running and right the wrongs of summer failings.

Newcastle’s rejected bids for Guehi took headlines in the summer despite signing the likes of Lewis Hall and Odysseas Vlachodimos. The Magpies saw their approaches worth around £70million knocked back for Guehi.

With a centre-back still required, Toon officials are looking at alternatives.

Defender Fikayo Tomori signed for Newcastle’s former Champions League opponents AC Milan from Chelsea in 2021 off the back of a successful loan stint. Newcastle are keen on signing Tomori, who could cost around £25million should he leave in January.

Newcastle target Fikayo Tomori wants move back to Premier League

After previously being a regular in Milan’s starting lineup, Tomori has only played 13 minutes since October 19th. He has fallen out of favour with Paolo Fonseca.

Now, according to TEAMTalk, Tomori is ready to leave the club and has asked his agent to look for a move.

The report suggests that Premier League clubs take priority as the 27-year-old wants to move back to England, which puts Newcastle in the driver’s seat for a move should they wish to make an approach.

It is thought that Milan is on top of the situation and has already started looking for younger defenders who could replace him, including Newcastle target Ousmane Diomande.

Juventus also keeping tabs on Fikayo Tomori

The report also says that fellow Serie A side Juventus have shown an interest in Tomori, who would come in as a replacement for injured defender Gleison Bremer. However, Milan would rather sell to a foreign club to not aid a league rival.

Despite the lack of appearances this season, Tomori is not short of high-level experience. The former England international has played 157 games for Milan and won the Serie A in 2022.

Newcastle wanted Malick Thiaw, Tomori’s teammate, in the summer but a move failed to materialise.

In a boost for the Magpies, they will soon have Sven Botman and Jamaal Lascelles back in the team, so signing a defender would not define the January transfer window, with other positions considered more important.
