Despite having Alexander Isak in the team, Newcastle United could do with more goals.
Last season, even a flawed Newcastle United team finished as the fourth-highest scorers in the Premier League, with only the top three bagging more than their 85.
This season, however, Eddie Howe’s side are only the joint-ninth highest scorers in England’s elite division, with 49. That is despite having Isak, the third-most prolific forward in the Premier League this season, on the books.
Indeed, the goals just aren’t being shared out. Isak made history by becoming the first Newcastle player to score 20 goals in successive Premier League seasons when he bagged against Brentford but his teammates have struggled.
Anthony Gordon is the next highest scorer in the Newcastle squad, with six Premier League goals to his name this season.
With that in mind, a new striker could be sought this summer.

Newcastle United interested in ambitious move for Viktor Gyokeres
Callum Wilson is out of contract at Newcastle this summer and a decision is still to be made on his future. At this stage, however, the forward is on course to leave.
Newcastle are excited about William Osula’s potential but the former Sheffield United player is yet to have been fully trusted by the Newcastle United manager at elite level.
Liam Delap is of interest to Newcastle but a bigger name has recently been linked.
According to Football Transfers, the club are plotting an ambitious move to bring Viktor Gyokeres to St James’ Park.
Gyokeres has been linked with Newcastle before but there interest is said to remain even after making clear Isak won’t be going anywhere this summer.
The two have played together for Sweden and Isak has hailed his partnership with Gyokeres.
The Sporting star has risen to prominence since joining the Lisbon giants in 2023. Heavily linked with Arsenal too, the 26-year-old has scored 86 goals in 93 games in Portugal.
Interestingly, the report adds that Newcastle would consider moving Isak out to the left in a Thierry Henry-style position to make room for Gyokeres.
Alexander Isak’s record with Viktor Gyokeres
The prospect of adding another prolific forward to the ranks is seriously exciting but the idea of changing Isak’s position is a slight concern.
It’s difficult to think of many better strikers around at the moment, so making even a slight change would be a risk.
That’s not to say the Newcastle star couldn’t perform while playing slightly wider, just that he’s been so good through the middle it hardly warrants a change.
Still, the pair have shown they can play together at international level.
| Games | Joint-goal participation |
| 12 | 4 |
In 12 games together for Sweden, Isak and Gyokeres have combined for four goals.
