Newcastle United fans will no doubt be sweating on the fitness of Alexander Isak.

In truth, Newcastle United should have enough to beat Leicester City in the Premier League on Monday night, regardless of whether or not Isak makes it.

Isak is a slight fitness concern for Newcastle against Leicester, having come off early during the 2-1 win over Brentford on Wednesday night.

While the Foxes cannot be overlooked completely of course, the fact they have lost seven consecutive home games should be taken into consideration. With that in mind, either Callum Wilson or Will Osula could feasibly start against them and impress.

However, the stakes are high for Newcastle right now. They are locked in a battle with a number of teams in the race for Champions League qualification and the idea of being without the superstar Swede for any great deal of time would be a major concern.

Isak made history by becoming the first Newcastle player to score 20 Premier League goals in successive seasons on Wednesday night and is crucial to their hopes of reaching Europe’s elite club competition once again.

Ahead of Monday’s game, Craig Hope of The Daily Mail provided an update.

Such has been his prolific form over the past few seasons, Isak is invariably a favourite amongst Fantasy Premier League (FPL) players.

That, coupled with the fact he’s so crucial to Eddie Howe’s Newcastle, led to a number of people asking Hope on social media platform X whether or not the 25-year-old will indeed be fit for Monday night’s game.

Thankfully for Newcastle, Hope revealed a positive update. In his view, Isak should be fit enough to make the game at the King Power Stadium.

Newcastle handed major transfer boost over Alexander Isak

Vitally important to anything Newcastle do both now and in the future, the only thing worse than an unwelcome injury to the striker during a crucial part of the season would be him leaving this summer.

Thankfully, it seems one particular door has shut in terms of potential exit routes at the end of the season.

It should of course be noted that the striker has given no outward indication he wants to leave anyway, and that he’s under contract until the summer of 2028.

Still, Arsenal have targeted Viktor Gyokeres instead of Isak this summer, believing the Sporting star to be much more realistic a signing.
