Newcastle United fans think £10m star is going to leave as well as Sean Longstaff after development

Leeds United are interested in signing another Newcastle United player after coming close to an agreement for Sean Longstaff.

After learning that Callum Wilson has entered free agency, it looks like there will soon be another departure on Tyneside.

Sean Longstaff lost his place in the starting XI when Sandro Tonali returned from suspension in August 2024. The Italian was sensational alongside Brazilian duo Bruno Guimaraes and Joelinton, giving Longstaff little hope of winning back his starting XI spot.

Newcastle United are set to complete the signing of Anthony Elanga this week, with the winger having his medical on Tyneside after travelling from Portugal. Elanga will become the club’s second most expensive signing once his £55million deal is confirmed, but it looks like there will be a case of one in and one out for the Magpies.

Longstaff does not want to leave Newcastle for free. He is instead open to leaving this summer so Newcastle can receive pure profit from his sale.

While Leeds look to get a deal for Longstaff over the line, it has been revealed that the newly promoted side are interested in a second Newcastle player.

Leeds United interested in signing Nick Pope after Sean Longstaff offer

The future of Nick Pope has been called into question in recent months, and even more so after it was revealed that Newcastle are seriously interested in signing James Trafford from Burnley.

Pope, who joined for £10m in 2022, was razor-sharp in the Carabao Cup final, attentive to everything and only letting his guard slip in the final minutes of the game. However, it now looks like he could be moved on after Keith Downie shared that Leeds have an interest in him as well as Longstaff.

With Trafford possibly signing for Newcastle, it is clear that Pope’s days of being the first-choice goalkeeper could soon be coming to an end, and Leeds realise that.

Despite the interest, Newcastle want Pope to stay on Tyneside, and the 33-year-old himself has no interest in leaving a club soon to play in the Champions League for one likely to be in a mid-table scrap.

With Pope happy on Tyneside, it would take a significant offer to get him to leave Newcastle this summer.

Newcastle United fans react to Nick Pope to Leeds United rumours

No matter what comes in the future, Pope will always be recognised as one of Newcastle’s best-ever goalkeepers. He joined the club shortly after Burnley’s relegation and helped them up to Champions League qualification.

Last season was not his best, but fans will still be pleased with his performances which again helped the Magpies return to Europe’s top competition.

Upon hearing the news that Pope could leave, Newcastle fans took to the social media platform X to share their views.

“Dubravka is the better keeper IMO, sell Pope and bring in Trafford,” said one fan, while another added: “If the bid is within the 10m mark I’d take it. Love him but PSR reasons need to kick on.”

“Not a fan of this one. We need Pope and Trafford here next season.” said this unconvinced Newcastle fan.

“Pope is a top keeper & for me he needs to stay this season 100%.” said a fifth Newcastle supporter.

Another fan added: “Won’t miss skipping a heartbeat every time the ball is at his feet.”

Finally, this Newcastle fan said: “Need to keep Pope at all costs, even if Trafford comes in. His experience will be vital.”
