Newcastle United have been linked with a number of players already ahead of the January transfer window.

Joel Ordonez has come on the radar of Newcastle, while Eddie Howe’s side are keeping tabs on Ibrahim Maza.

With Newcastle in the race for the Premier League top four, it makes sense that the Magpies are in the market for reinforcements.

And perhaps this is why it comes as a surprise that Newcastle are willing to let one of their senior players leave.

Newcastle United ready to sell Callum Wilson in January

According to TBR, Newcastle are willing to offload Calum Wilson in the January transfer window.

The 32-year-old English striker is out of contract at the Magpies at the end of the season.

TBR has claimed that Newcastle have made Wilson available for transfer, but manager Eddie Howe wants a replacement signed.

The report has noted that Miguel Almiron and Kieran Trippier could also depart St. James’ Park.

Why Newcastle should keep Callum Wilson

Wilson is out of contract at Newcastle next summer. It is hard to see any club cough up a lot of money for the striker in the January transfer window.

Howe wants a replacement for Wilson if Newcastle are to sell him in the middle of the season.

It is hard to see the Magpies able to attract a top-quality number nine now. Newcastle would be better off waiting until the summer of 2025 before trying to bring in a new striker.

For Newcastle, it would be better to keep Wilson for the rest of the season and then offload him.

At least, Wilson will give Howe an option when he is fit and available for Newcastle.

True, Wilson’s injury record is an issue, but 48 goals and 11 assists in 108 matches for Newcastle is not a bad record.
