Newcastle United appear to be determined to sign Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace.
The Magpies have been chasing Marc Guehi for a couple of weeks now, and it has developed into quite the saga.
Newcastle United have had three bids rejected for Guehi, resulting in frustration from Toon fans. The hope was that the 24-year-old was going to arrive ahead of last weekend’s Sela Cup, yet Eddie Howe is still sweating on the Guehi deal on the eve of the new Premier League season.
Steve Parish has told Newcastle it will take ‘superstar money’ to sign Guehi, with a fee of around £65million required to get the England international away from Selhurst Park.
Newcastle make fourth bid for Marc Guehi
Now Newcastle are seemingly close to that amount, as they submit a fourth and hopefully decisive bid to sign Guehi.

According to the Daily Mail, Newcastle have made a fourth bid for Guehi. They report that it is closer to the £65million asking price that Crystal Palace are looking for, with the Eagles yet to respond to the offer.
The Daily Mail add that while the bid has not been accepted yet, the belief is that a breakthrough is close.
They add that if the deal goes through, Guehi would be in line to become Newcastle’s most expensive signing ever. That record currently belongs to Alexander Isak, who cost the Magpies £63million from Real Sociedad in 2022.
This should result in a compromise between Newcastle and Crystal Palace
It has been frustrating to see Newcastle fail to reach Crystal Palace’s asking price for Guehi.
But now the Magpies are close to it, and it will hopefully end with Guehi moving to Tyneside and becoming a Newcastle United player.
Even if the offer is not exactly worth £65million, there will hopefully be a compromise. For Palace, they would be taking a risk if they reject it. They will not get this kind of money for him in 12 months, when he will only have one year left to run on his current contract.
With two years left on his deal, this is the optimum time to sell Guehi. And it would be the most lucrative sale in their history, eclipsing the fees they got for Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Michael Olise.
It has taken a lot of time, but this could be the Marc Guehi breakthrough that Newcastle United have been hoping for. It could be fourth time lucky for Paul Mitchell, who may be closing in on his first major signing as the Magpies’ sporting director.
But whether the bid is accepted or rejected, this will surely be Newcastle’s final offer for Guehi.
