Newcastle United have had two bids rejected by Crystal Palace for Marc Guehi, but are hoping it will not become three.

The Magpies’ pursuit of the 24-year-old is turning into quite the saga, as is usually the case when it comes to Newcastle United and incoming transfer business.

Marc Guehi is keen to sign for Newcastle, and there has been confidence that a deal can be agreed between Toon sporting director Paul Mitchell and Crystal Palace. However, some of that confidence has wavered from fans, as Newcastle struggle to strike a deal for the England international.

Newcastle had a second bid for Guehi rejected last week, as Palace aim to receive £65million for a player who excelled for England at Euro 2024.

That would make him Newcastle’s most expensive signing ever, with the Magpies going in search of a compromise for the former Chelsea man.

Newcastle make a third bid to sign Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace

And in search of that compromise, Toon officials have submitted a third bid for Guehi.

That is according to Sky Sports journalist Keith Downie, who has provided the latest news regarding Newcastle United’s pursuit of Guehi.

He wrote on X: “Newcastle have returned with a third offer for Marc Guéhi. I understand the increased offer is under consideration by Crystal Palace — and talks are ongoing. The latest bid was made by #NUFC over the weekend. Newcastle offered in the region of £50m last week. Palace looking for around £65 for the England defender. #NUFC hoping for a compromise.”

Newcastle need this to be the Guehi breakthrough

This is Newcastle’s third bid for Guehi, and the hope is that it will be their final bid. But that is only the hope if it is accepted by Crystal Palace.

If it is rejected, it could leave Newcastle’s summer transfer plans in tatters. The majority of the budget is set to go towards Guehi, but a third rejection from Palace could send the Magpies’ recruitment team back to the drawing board. And that would not be ideal with less than three weeks to go before the transfer window closes.

Newcastle still have a lot of work to do this summer. They need to sign a winger too, while PSR concerns mean Newcastle will need to sell before they buy to do any further business if they can get Guehi over the line.

He wants the move and so do Newcastle. All that is left to do is agree a price, and hopefully this third offer will result in Palace giving Guehi the green light to head to Tyneside.

This has to be the transfer breakthrough that Newcastle United are waiting for, with the new Premier League season set to kick off this weekend.
