Newcastle United have now had three bids rejected for Marc Guehi by Crystal Palace.
The Magpies’ pursuit of the 24-year-old continues, almost two weeks after interest in Marc Guehi emerged in the media.
It was August 2nd when it came out that Newcastle United were trying to sign Guehi, and the hope was that a deal would be done in time for the new Premier League season.
Alas, that is not going to be the case, and there are doubts over whether a deal will be done at all. However, Luke Edwards has predicted that Newcastle will still sign Guehi, as negotiations continue.
Sky Sports have now reported that Crystal Palace have rejected Newcastle’s third bid for Guehi, which was worth £60million in total. That would have been £55million up front, with a further £5million in add-ons.
That has not been enough for Crystal Palace to say ‘yes’, as Paul Mitchell ponders his next move.

Newcastle’s big concern when Marc Guehi interest emerged
Newcastle’s pursuit of Marc Guehi has been one of frustration for Toon fans. However, it began with fear from those inside the club.
Shortly after the Magpies’ interest in the central defender went public, it was reported that Newcastle were worried their Guehi approach would be hijacked.
Danny Murphy tipped Liverpool to move for Guehi, but that has not happened. As it stands, it is a one horse race for the England international. Newcastle’s fears have not been realised, but it turns out that interest from elsewhere should not have been the Magpies’ biggest worry.
Newcastle main fear should have been Crystal Palace’s asking price
Newcastle have made three bids to sign Guehi. Their interest is very much in the public domain. While Toon officials would have loved to keep it a secret, that has not happened. If their approach was going to be hijacked, it probably would have happened by now.
But the biggest problem Newcastle have got and have always had is the price. Three offers have been submitted, yet they still have not reached an agreement with Crystal Palace.
They have been told what it will take to bring Guehi to St James’ Park. Steve Parish has said it will cost ‘superstar money’ to sign Guehi, yet Newcastle seemingly have not offered that.
And it is not like Guehi’s asking price has been a secret. When interest first emerged in the media, it was reported that Crystal Palace will want more than £60million. Yet at this moment at time, Newcastle have not offered more than £60million.
Of course, the Magpies want to get the best deal possible for them. But there has to be a serious belief that they can make an acceptable offer, otherwise so much time has been wasted pursuing a target that simply was not affordable.
With just over two weeks to go before the transfer window closes, Newcastle seriously need to get a move on. The Guehi situation has turned into a saga, and it is a saga that Toon officials should have seen coming.
