Scottish Premiership side Hearts reportedly want to sign Garang Kuol on loan from Newcastle United.

That is according to the Edinburgh Evening News, who claim that Robbie Neilson’s have enquired about potentially signing the 18-year-old forward this month.

Kuol officially became a Magpie on January 1st, after he agreed a move to St James’ Park back in September. He has now arrived in England, and watched his new team draw 0-0 with Arsenal at the Emirates on Tuesday night.

The teenager is an incredibly exciting prospect, and Toon fans are very eager to see him in action. However, the next time they see him play probably won’t be in Newcastle colours.

He is expected to go out on loan, with Eddie Howe recently stating that he needs to get more senior minutes under his belt.

It was previously reported that a plethora of clubs were interested in signing Kuol temporarily, and it looks like a queue is starting to form.

Reports in Scotland state that Hearts are interested in giving him the first-team football he needs, and they might just have an ace up their sleeve when it comes to negotiating with Toon Sporting Director Dan Ashworth.

Hearts want Garang Kuol, and it could be an ideal move

While some fans might turn their nose up at Kuol going to play in Scotland, a move to Hearts could actually be really beneficial for the speedster.

They currently have three Australian players in their ranks right now, all of which went to the World Cup. Nathaniel Atkinson, Cameron Devlin and Kye Rowles were all with Kuol in Qatar, as Australia reached the knockout stages of the competition.

There was a clear sense of unity among the Socceroos team, and it certainly served them well.

So perhaps playing alongside some familiar faces so soon after leaving home could really benefit Kuol. He would get that at Hearts, and Rowles is someone who he actually knows from club level as well as international.

Rowles joined Hearts from Central Coast Mariners last year, which is the team that Kuol has joined Newcastle from.

Kuol has a huge amount of potential and could go on to become a real superstar. However, the next few decisions that Newcastle make regarding his development are crucial. Playing football and working with good coaches is important, and so is the environment he works in. He is still an incredibly young man – he’s only 18, and has moved thousands of miles away from his family.

Some home comforts could serve him well in these early stages, so playing alongside some Aussies at Hearts might not be a bad idea. It is certainly something for Ashworth and Howe to consider, as they deliberate where to send Kuol on loan.
