Newcastle United could reportedly send Garang Kuol on loan to a Championship club in 2023.

That is according to the Telegraph, who claim that Eddie Howe and Dan Ashworth are currently discussing where would be best for the 18-year-old’s development.

Kuol is set to officially become a Magpie in January, having already agreed a move to St James’ Park from A League side Central Coast Mariners.

The forward has been competing at the World Cup, but his tournament came to an end on Saturday when Australia lost 2-1 to Argentina.

Now the youngster’s attention will turn to joining Newcastle, where his immediate future is uncertain. He is set to be loaned out, but the destination remains unknown.

It had been suggested that a move to Europe beckoned, but a new report suggests he could stay in England.

Kuol could head to a Championship club on loan

According to the Telegraph, the club are currently deciding whether or not a temporary move to a Championship team would be the best course of action. That way he could get used to the rigours of English football.

However, that decision will depend on whether or not he can gain a work permit. The Athletic state that Newcastle think his appearances at the World Cup will earn him one.

If that is the case, nothing would be stopping him joining a Championship club. He could even stay at St James’ Park, but that is incredibly unlikely.

The Telegraph add that Newcastle’s current preference is to either send him to Germany or Portugal. The report adds that he could then go to the Championship next season if the Magpies decide he needs another loan.

It is a difficult decision for Newcastle, but one they need to make pretty quickly. January is almost here, and Kuol will very soon be an official Newcastle United player.

A move to the Championship would be a surprise, but it would allow Newcastle to check on him more regularly. It could also hand him a fast track to the Premier League.

That is the end goal for Kuol and Newcastle, but patience is needed on this journey.
