If Newcastle United want to sign Mason Mount this summer, they might have to make him the club’s second most expensive signing ever.
The Chelsea midfielder could be on the move at the end of the season, and Newcastle are one of multiple Premier League clubs who have been linked with making a bid for Mount.
90min first stated that the Magpies were keeping an eye on the 24-year-old‘s contract situation, while the Daily Mail reported that Eddie Howe’s side had joined the race to sign him.
Mount’s future is up in the air right now, as talks over a new Chelsea contract stall. His current deal at Stamford Bridge expires in 2024, and he is yet to agree terms over an extension.
It has been reported that Chelsea could sell Mount if the summer arrives with no new contract agreed, and now the Guardian have stated how much he might cost.

Mason Mount could cost Newcastle £50million this summer
According to the Guardian, Mount could be available for £50million, with Chelsea willing to listen to offers if nothing changes regarding his contract situation.
That figure would make him an expensive addition for Newcastle, but it is certainly within our price range. The Toon owners have spent more than that before, bringing Alexander Isak to St James’ Park for £63million.
A £50million deal for Mount would make him Newcastle’s second most expensive signing ever, but the big stumbling block could be wages.
The Guardian add that the midfielder has been offered £180,000-a-week to stay at Chelsea, which is more than anyone currently earns on Tyneside. Therefore, Newcastle will have to break their wage structure if they are to force through a move for Mount.
It could be worth it, as he is a top class player who could really thrive in Howe’s system. In the words of former player Stan Collymore, he could be ‘perfect‘ for Newcastle. He is a goalscoring midfielder, and could be a good alternative to James Maddison, who is also heavily linked with a move to Tyneside.
