Newcastle’s summer transfer planning will already be well underway behind the scenes, and it seems that one name that has come to the fore is that of Chelsea’s Mason Mount.

That’s the thoughts of Dean Jones who told GiveMeSport: “At the moment, I’m told it’s really just a watching brief because they’re not genuinely expecting Mason Mount to become available on the market.
“I think it would be a big surprise if he genuinely was for sale. But if he is, then Newcastle absolutely want to be in that conversation.”
The England star was once described by Gary Lineker as having “fantastic” after claiming that Mount was Chelsea’s “best player” in the days when Frank Lampard was at the helm.
Chelsea have an abundance of players, particularly in the midfield after their wild spending since Todd Boehly took over at Stamford Bridge, and as such will need to drastically reduce their squad size and wage bill, which could explain why Mason Mount is reluctant to sign a new deal.

Mount may be starting to feel that he would be best off moving away from Chelsea in search of more guaranteed first-team action.
Now in the last 18 months of his contract, Chelsea will be hoping that the situation is resolved quickly but with several clubs likely to be keeping tabs on the situation, they will be aware of the challenge that lies ahead.
Newcastle slipped down to fifth place at the weekend, but wherever they end up finishing this season, the fact that they’ve spent so long in that top four will likely mean that next season’s objective will be to qualify for Champions League. In order to do that, signing someone of Mount’s ability and experience is imperative.
