Newcastle United tapped into the Italian market in the summer of 2023, and now they could do it again in 2024.
The Magpies bought Sandro Tonali from AC Milan last summer, and are now being linked with a move for another Serie A talent.
Albert Gudmundsson is enjoying a strong season for Genoa, and it looks like it will result in him leaving them this summer when the 2023/24 campaign comes to an end.
And reports in Italy state that he is attracting interest from two Premier League clubs, one of which is Newcastle United.

According to Calciomercato, Newcastle and Tottenham Hotspur are interested in signing Albert Gudmundsson from Genoa this summer.
The report states that the 26-year-old attacker will also be the subject of interest from Italy’s top clubs, such as Juventus and Napoli. However, Calciomercato add that the two Premier League suitors are more likely to do a deal, as they are capable of offering Gudmundsson higher wages.
A deal for the Iceland international will not be cheap, with Calciomercato stating that Gudmundsson will be allowed to leave this summer for around £30million.
His contract with Genoa runs until 2027, so they are in a strong position to command a sizeable fee.
Gudmundsson plays as a secondary striker for Genoa, and has been among the goals this season. He has scored 11 times in all competitions, while he also has three assists.
Newcastle will be looking to sign another forward this summer, and it is particularly pressing given the current issues that Alexander Isak and Callum Wilson have. Both players have missed a lot of games this season, and it is clear that the Magpies need a fresh attacking option next season.
If Gudmundsson is the man who Newcastle United sign, he will become just the first Icelandic player to represent the club. Bjarni Gudjonsson was contracted to the club in the late 90s, but failed to make a single appearance.
