Newcastle United have a fresh injury issue to deal with ahead of Saturday’s game against Bournemouth.

The Magpies welcomed Callum Wilson back to the starting XI against Nottingham Forest, after he recently returned from a calf injury.

The 31-year-old almost got through the entire game unscathed, but appeared to pick up a problem in the latter stages. Wilson was involved in an altercation with a Forest defender, which resulted in the striker sustaining a muscle issue in his arm.

Now the Daily Mail have provided an update on the situation, and it is unclear if Wilson will be available to feature in black and white this weekend.

Callum Wilson could miss Newcastle vs Bournemouth due to injury

According to the Daily Mail, Wilson is a doubt to face his former club Bournemouth at St James’ Park on Saturday.

They state that the £20million forward has suffered a pectoral injury, casting doubt over whether or not he will be involved this weekend.

The Daily Mail state that a decision regarding Wilson’s availability will be made later in the week, with the club hoping that they can manage the pain and ensure he is able to play.

More injury agony for Newcastle United

This latest injury concern comes at a time when Newcastle are light on forwards. Alexander Isak is also out of action, and is not expected to return this weekend.

If Wilson and Isak are both ruled out, it will likely result in Anthony Gordon playing through the middle, like he did in the first half against Luton Town.

Hopefully the club can get Wilson in a position where he is able to play on Saturday without pain, as it would be a big blow to be without him. He has only just returned from injury, and is enduring a frustrating season with regards to his fitness.

Wilson has missed 13 games so far this season, and that tally could potentially increase to 14 this weekend.
