Newcastle think one PL club is going to overcharge them this summer

Newcastle United have been linked with multiple Chelsea players over the past year, but not a single one has made the journey from Stamford Bridge to St James’ Park.

While Newcastle owner Amanda Staveley is friends with Todd Boehly, it has not helped the Magpies in negotiations with Chelsea.

Last summer Newcastle were linked with the likes of Armando Broja, Conor Gallagher, Christian Pulisic and Callum Hudson-Odoi. None of them arrived, neither on loan or permanently.

Then came the January transfer window, and Newcastle were linked with Gallagher again, Hakim Ziyech and Ruben Loftus-Cheek. There was also speculation about Jorginho and Pulisic once more.

But Newcastle did no business with Chelsea, despite their best efforts. Gallagher looked like the most likely arrival, but he was not allowed to make the move to St James’ Park.

The midfielder continues to be linked with joining Howe’s squad, but it appears that Newcastle have a major concern heading into the summer transfer window.

Fear that Chelsea will demand too much money from Newcastle for their players

According to the Telegraph, there is concern that Chelsea will ask for crazy money if Newcastle try to sign any of their players this summer. That is despite the fact that the Blues desperately need to trim their squad.

As well as Gallagher, the Magpies have also been linked with trying to sign Mason Mount, whose future remains up in the air. However, his wage demands are likely to be too much for Newcastle – even if they were able to agree a reasonable fee with Chelsea.

Like so often since the change of ownership at Newcastle, Premier League clubs appear to be unwilling to do business. We have seen it from Manchester United, Arsenal and Chelsea.

It has made things difficult in the transfer market, especially when Howe is so keen to sign players who have Premier League experience.

There are plenty of Chelsea players who have no future at Stamford Bridge but could shine at St James’ Park. However, the fear is that they will be priced out of moves to the North East.
