Report: Why Newcastle owners Staveley and Ghodoussi were at Chelsea yesterday

Newcastle United owners Amanda Staveley and Mehrdad Ghodoussi were pictured watching Chelsea at Stamford Bridge yesterday.

They had box office seats for a brilliant game between Chelsea and Tottenham, who played out a 2-2 draw. There was also a big coming together between Thomas Tuchel and Antonio Conte, who had to be separated at full time.

It was a fantastic game to watch, but all Newcastle fans want to know is why the Toon owners were in attendance.

Now the Athletic have provided some information on the visit.

Amanda Staveley’s trip to Chelsea explained

According to the Athletic, Staveley and Ghodoussi were invited to Stamford Bridge by new Chelsea owner Todd Boehly. They add that that Staveley and Boehly are friends after meeting at an event in 2019.

The husband and wife reportedly have a good relationship with Chelsea, and that could help us going into the final few weeks of the transfer window.

Newcastle remain in the market for attacking reinforcements. Our need for new signings was reinforced with a limp attacking display away at Brighton on Saturday.

Eddie Howe needs a few more arrivals, and the Magpies decision makers have some Chelsea players on their radar.

Newcastle interested in four Chelsea players

It’s well documented that Newcastle have been looking to sign a few players from Chelsea before the transfer window closes.

The Athletic state that the Magpies have discussed Armando Broja, Conor Gallagher, Callum Hudson-Odoi and Christian Pulisic. And there was also interest in Timo Werner before he completed a move back to RB Leipzig.

Whether any potential moves for any of those players were discussed on Sunday remains to be seen. They are all talented players who would be welcome at St James’ Park.

Of course, there’s no way all four will be heading to Tyneside. We will be lucky to sign one. But which one remains a mystery.

Newcastle will fancy their chances though, especially given Staveley’s friendship with Boehly and the relationship between the two clubs.
