Newcastle United will not shatter their wage structure to land big names this summer which could spell the end for their interest in Mason Mount.
Yesterday The Telegraph claimed that the PIF were going to let Eddie Howe off the leash in the transfer market this summer telling him to sign four ‘elite players’.
However, today, The Daily Mail have brought fans crashing down to Earth with a bump as they claim that the club will not be prepared to shatter their wage structure in order to land big names such as Chelsea‘s Mason Mount.
Mason Mount’s wage demands are too much for Newcastle right now
The report claims that Mount would be seeking around £250,000-a-week, and Newcastle will not be willing to go that wild with wages. Bruno Guimaraes is currently on around £120,000-a-week before bonuses, and there’s a feeling that bringing in players on such big wages could make things awkward in the dressing room as established players will start to demand hefty pay increases.
The reported £80million asking price for Mason Mount wouldn’t be so much of an issue, but it now looks like wages are going to be a big stumbling block for the Magpies this summer.

The Mail also makes mention of Declan Rice and believes that the West Ham man would demand similar wages which also puts a huge question mark over that move.
Once Newcastle are consistently qualifying for the CL they will spend big
It’s believed there’s a hesitation to go too far too soon with big wages while there’s still a possibility of having just one season in the Champions League. Newcastle need to establish themselves as regulars in Europe’s top competition before they will dare to offer such crazy wages to players.
Therefore Newcastle’s transfer approach is likely to be similar to what we’ve already seen since the PIF came in. A focus on quality and value for money as opposed to big flashy statement signings. At least until the club is established amongst Europe’s best.
