The hierarchy at Newcastle United are already planning ahead for the January transfer window.

The Magpies are expected to be busy in January after a very disappointing end to the club’s summer business.

Newcastle were forced to sell Yankuba Minteh and Elliot Anderson early in the summer to evade Premier League Profit and Sustainability Rules, but business was expected to accelerate after the June 30th cut-off date.

However, Newcastle and new sporting director Paul Mitchell failed to deliver any of the club’s top targets. Newcastle failed to land centre-back target Marc Guehi and also fell short with a deadline day £50m bid for Anthony Elanga.

After tension behind the scenes this season, Eddie Howe will be demanding some immediate upgrades for his starting XI in January, and Newcastle will have cash to splash.

PIF set to inject cash for January transfer window

After missing out on a £70m deal for Guehi in the summer, Newcastle are set to have a big transfer budget in January.

A new right-sided winger will be the top priority, with the need for a centre-back dwindling when Sven Botman and Jamaal Lascelles return from injury.

It will fall to Mitchell to deliver Newcastle’s top targets, but it seems he will get some financial help from PiF.

According to The Chronicle, Newcastle chiefs are set to inject funds into the recruitment kitty ahead of the January window.

The report claims that Newcastle are already planning ahead for the next two transfer windows and that the club’s transfer committee – which includes Mitchell and Howe – will report their transfer targets to PIF in the coming weeks.

Newcastle set for exciting January window

The impact of a disappointing summer window has been felt by everyone at St James’ Park.

It caused tension behind the scenes with Howe and Mitchell and the general mood around the club had been sapped due to the lack of squad improvement.

Newcastle simply cannot afford a repeat in January. The flaws in Howe’s squad are starting to show and if he isn’t backed in January with big-money signings then Newcastle risk losing him to the England job.

A right winger will rightly be the priority, but if Newcastle have the funds to spare and avoid PSR then a new centre-back and creative midfielder could be on the cards.

Newcastle could also be busy on the selling front with as many as six players up for sale in January.
