Newcastle make contact over transfer eight years in the making after failed Rafa Benitez pitch

Newcastle United keep being linked with moves for new strikers.

Alexander Isak is of course Newcastle United’s first-choice option there and forcing him out of the starting lineup looks impossible for almost any player, such is the quality the Sweden star boasts.

However, Isak has been linked with a move away and even if Newcastle are able to keep him, the options behind him look limited.

Callum Wilson is out of contract at the end of the season, while summer signing Will Osula has done little to suggest he’s ready for regular Premier League competition just yet.

With all that in mind, targets are being touted. Newcastle have been linked with Liam Delap, while Moise Kean is also being tipped as a potential option.

Now, a perhaps more familiar name has emerged on the radar – a certain Tammy Abraham.

Newcastle make contact over Tammy Abraham signing

Abraham has been linked with Newcastle for years, starting way back in 2017.

Former manager Rafa Benitez was keen to bring him to the club on loan during his Chelsea days.

Still, Benitez failed in his attempts to sign Abraham, who went on to join Swansea before making it into the first-team at Chelsea and then moving across to Italy with Roma, before joining AC Milan on loan.

According to Caught Offside, Newcastle and West Ham are among the clubs who have initiated contact with the forward’s camp, with a Premier League return seemingly likely.

Clubs in Italy aren’t thought to be keen to extend Abraham’s stay in Serie A. Wolves, Nottingham Forest and Everton are also said to be keen.

Will Alexander Isak leave Newcastle this summer?

Newcastle are in a strange position when it comes to signing a striker this summer. Names like Abraham look like ideal options to act as cover for Isak – particularly if Wilson leaves – but would perhaps expect to start.

As Tottenham found with Harry Kane, it’s hard to sign big-name players who would happily serve as an understudy, because of how good the first-choice forward is.

That could change, however, if Newcastle sell the Sweden star this summer. Nobody wants to hear that of course and hopefully it doesn’t happen but it is something that needs to be considered.

As much as they want to keep him, Newcastle know they could spark a record-breaking bidding war for Isak should they indicate a willingness to sell.
