Report: Roma agree fee for Newcastle United-linked Tammy Abraham

Earlier in the summer, Newcastle United were linked with a move for Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham.

But now it looks like the 23-year-old could be on his way to Italy.

According to Sky Sports, Roma have agreed a £34million deal to bring Abraham to the Stadio Olimpico. Now he must decide if he wants to move to the Serie A club.

It could be a huge signing by Jose Mourinho, and one that shows the Magpies never had a chance of signing Abraham.

Tammy Abraham to Newcastle was never going to happen

In May, the Northern Echo claimed that Newcastle were interested in signing Abraham if he became available on loan.

They added that Billy Gilmour was also a target, who has since joined Norwich temporarily.

Abraham would have been a wonderful signing for Newcastle, but a move never felt likely.

As soon as rumours of his price tag emerged, the Magpies never had a chance.

And a permanent move is what Abraham needs – not another loan spell.

At £34million, Newcastle never stood a chance. It would have made him the second most expensive signing in the club’s history.

And with an extra forward seemingly not deemed necessary by Steve Bruce, the Magpies were never going to make a move for Abraham.

It’s a shame, as Abraham and Callum Wilson could have been a deadly duo up top.

But instead, we are solely relying on Wilson for goals.

Abraham is a player who would have massively improved us, but it seems like we were never in the race when you consider the price Roma are reportedly paying for him.

Here’s hoping Wilson doesn’t get injured again…
