Things had appeared to have been picking up for Newcastle United in the transfer market.

Indeed, with the Premier League opener at home to Southampton just around the corner now, the fact Newcastle are yet to really strengthen their squad is obviously a rather big concern.

Still, positive news emerged over the last few days.

Newcastle are reportedly in talks with Crystal Palace over a move for England international Marc Guehi, who is said to be open to joining Eddie Howe’s side.

That would be some coup, while the club are also thought to be on the lookout for a new right winger too.

Then, there’s the prospect of signing an exciting young forward.

Sheffield United’s William Osula emerged as something as a surprise name recently and there were suggestions a deal to land the 21-year-old was close.

Still, more insight has now emerged.

Newcastle dealt blow in attempts to sign William Osula

According to the print edition of the Sunday Sun (page 54 on 04/08/2024), the takeover situation at Bramall Lane could complicate matters.

They suggest that an Anglo-American consortium are eager to buy the Blades and would like to keep Osula at the club if they are to come in as new owners.

William Osula is a Paul Mitchell target at Newcastle

Osula could be the first new signing of the Paul Mitchell era at Newcastle, should the Championship club decide to sell despite their takeover uncertainty.

According to the Daily Telegraph, Mitchell is in fact the one driving the club’s interest in Osula, with the sporting director of the belief that Eddie Howe could really nurture his talent.

There is even a hope that Osula could develop into a Premier League striker over the coming years, should Howe be able to work his magic on the training pitch.
