Newcastle United have signed one Italian in Sandro Tonali, and are now looking to add another to Eddie Howe’s squad ahead of next season.
The Magpies have confirmed the arrival of Tonali, who has cost £55million from AC Milan.
Eddie Howe is delighted with his latest acquisition, but will not want the summer recruitment drive to end there.
Newcastle are also looking for a boost in attack, and have been linked with a move for Juventus forward Federico Chiesa. He would be a dream signing for a lot of Toon fans, and is a player who former Sunderland manager Paolo Di Canio thinks could be ‘devastating‘ alongside Alexander Isak at St James’ Park.
A move away from Juventus could be on the cards for Chiesa, and that could give him the chance to swap one black and white shirt for another.
Newcastle told to pay £52million for Federico Chiesa
According to Italian outlet Corriere Dello Sport, Newcastle have made their move for Chiesa. They state that Aston Villa and Liverpool are also interested, but the potential buyers and seller disagree over the 25-year-old’s price.
The report claims that Juve want to receive around £52million for the Italy international. In contrast, the aforementioned clubs are seemingly only willing to offer £34million.
That means that there is an £18million gap to bridge, which is not beyond the realms of possibility. Hopefully a compromise can be reached, as Chiesa would be another outstanding summer signing.
His pace in and out of possession is incredible, while he is versatile too. Chiesa predominantly plays on the left, but he is also dangerous on the right of through the middle.
A deal for Chiesa would also be good news for Tonali, with the pair knowing each other from international duty. They rose through the Italy ranks together, and could help each other settle into life on Tyneside.
Tonali has already took the plunge and has become a Magpie – only time will tell if Chiesa is going to join him.
