Newcastle United have announced the arrival of Sandro Tonali, who has received multiple welcome messages from his new teammates.

While the deal was agreed last month, Newcastle finally announced the signing of Tonali on Monday. He becomes the club’s second most expensive signing ever, costing £55million to put him in between Anthony Gordon and Alexander Isak.

Eddie Howe is very happy with the Magpies’ latest acquisition, and already has a plan for the 23-year-old. He is going to play as a number eight alongside Bruno Guimaraes, with Newcastle keen to ensure that Tonali becomes stronger and fitter ahead of the new Premier League season.

Tonali becomes the first senior signing to arrive this summer, as Howe looks to boost his squad ahead of the club’s return to the Champions League. In Tonali, they have got a player who knows exactly what it takes to thrive in Europe’s elite competition. He helped AC Milan reach the semi-finals last season.

That experience will be vital, and Tonali has received welcome messages from two Newcastle players who have also competed in the Champions League before arriving at St James’ Park.

Trippier and Botman welcome Tonali to Newcastle

Following the announcement of Newcastle’s latest signing, Tonali has received a message on Instagram from one of the Magpies’ most important players, Kieran Trippier.

The 32-year-old posted a picture of him playing against Tonali on his Instagram story, adding the caption: “Welcome to the Toon.”

Tonali has also received an Instagram message from Toon defender Sven Botman. Underneath a picture of the club’s announcement, he wrote: “Welcome bro.”

Both Trippier and Botman will be excited to play alongside Tonali, as he is the type of player they could build a real connection with.

Howe likes his team to control the game, which means short passing and retaining possession. Newcastle have defenders who are good on the ball, but that is only useful if they have strong options in front of them. Tonali is exactly that. He will be able to receive possession from the defence, take it on the half turn and build attacks from deep.

The new recruit is already getting a lot of support from his Toon teammates, and it will only intensify when he links up with the group for the first time in pre-season.
