Newcastle United have focussed heavily on departures in the January transfer window.

It looked like it was always going to be the case on Tyneside given how much PSR hampered their business during the summer window.

Despite Newcastle trying to sign Marc Guehi for a massive fee in the summer, the impression has always been that Newcastle must sell before buying in January.

If they signed Guehi, the club would have been much more desperate for outgoings. There has been several loan departures with the likes of Isaac Hayden moving to Portsmouth and young defender Alex Murphy joining Bolton.

The first permanent departure will be announced before the end of the window on Sunday. Miguel Almiron will rejoin Atlanta United after six years on Tyneside.

Now, a new report has stated that another Newcastle star will make a permanent move in the coming days.

Jamie Miley set for Newcastle departure

Jamie Miley has not been able to gain momentum in the last two seasons due to consistent injury problems.

The 21-year-old spent the first half of the season out on loan to League Two side Newport County but only made eight appearances in all competitions due to more injury trouble.

He returned to Newcastle in January where it looked like Miley was set for another loan spell. However, according to Chronicle Live, Miley is now set to make a permanent move to National League side Hartlepool United.

The midfielder is out of contract in the summer and wants regular first-team football – which he will not get at Newcastle. It is a big drop in leagues for Miley, but the report states that he is happy to move to the National League side as they are still based near to home.

Jamie is the brother of Lewis Miley who broke into Newcastle’s first-team at the end of the 2022/23 season, making his debut against Chelsea.

What Eddie Howe thinks of Jamie Miley

Newcastle boss Eddie Howe loses a young midfielder who has a bright future – just not on Tyneside.

Miley played in Newcastle’s pre-season friendlies against Hull City, Urawa Red Diamonds and Girona before making the move to Newport.

Following his performance against Hull, Howe said Miley was ‘trustworthy’ and compared his qualities to his brother – a sign that he could have played a part in Newcastle’s squads in the future.

Miley also played in Newcastle’s UEFA Youth League campaign last season, making three appearances.
