Miguel Almiron is edging closer to officially leaving Newcastle United.

He has been linked with a move away from St James’ Park since last January, but it now finally looks as if Miguel Almiron will be on his way out of Newcastle United.

Atlanta United have agreed a fee for Almiron, as he prepares to return to the club who the Magpies bought him from in 2019. The MLS side are going to pay around £10million for Miggy, having sold him for £21million six years ago.

While there were fears that he was not convinced about a move away, Newcastle now believe Almiron will leave the club.

Miguel Almiron’s ’emotional’ Newcastle United goodbye

That appears to be certain, after Sky Sports reporter Pete Graves provided an update on the Paraguayan’s situation.

Graves wrote on X: “Told there were emotional scenes as Miggy said goodbyes to players and staff at #nufc. A popular figure around the club. The right winger now close to sealing his return to former #MLS club Atlanta United.”

Why it is the right time to say goodbye to Newcastle United stalwart

As Graves says, Almiron has always been a popular player behind the scenes at Newcastle United.

He has never caused any problems. He has simply been committed to giving his best for Newcastle United, during the good times and the bad.

There will be sadness inside the club, as they say goodbye to a player who was approaching his six-year anniversary at St James’ Park. There was also an emotional goodbye on Saturday, as Newcastle fans serenaded Almiron following the win over Southampton. It felt like that would be his last ever Toon appearance, and that now appears to be the case.

But it is the right time to part ways. Almiron is no longer a regular under Eddie Howe, and could benefit from a fresh start. Meanwhile, PSR means that Newcastle United need to put sentiment to one side and increase their revenue.

They are set to do exactly that, but it is unlikely to lead to reinforcements. It has been reported that Newcastle are unlikely to sign anyone this month, even with the money they are set to receive for Almiron.
