Newcastle United will not have it easy when it comes to signing players.

Indeed, Newcastle are reportedly not likely to spend a huge amount of money in January and still need to sell players – albeit perhaps not some of their best – in order to unlock further funds.

Clearly, that is frustrating, but it’s not as if the club would necessarily find it simple in signing players even if there weren’t financial restrictions.

Newcastle’s transfer business has broadly been very good under PIF but any signing brings risks.

Then, there’s the added complication of potential rival interest.

Tottenham, for example, are reportedly looking to accelerate a bid for England international Angel Gomes, who has been linked with a move to St James’ Park.

Now, it seems another Premier League rival could look to hijack any potential move for Atalanta midfielder Ederson, who was hailed as “amazing” by pundit Owen Hargreaves for his performance in the Europa League final earlier this year.

Manchester United could soon hijack Newcastle interest in Ederson

The Brazilian has long been touted as a target at Newcastle, who reportedly consider him a potential option for what could be a rebuild of the squad next summer.

Still, according to Sky Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg, Manchester United are now internally discussing and considering an offer for the midfielder ahead of the January transfer window.

Steve Nickson will be disappointed in breaking Newcastle transfer news

Head scout Steve Nickson is understood to have held talks with Atalanta over the prospect of a move for the player back in January, such is his admiration for Ederson.

With that in mind, he surely won’t be happy to imagine Dan Ashworth and Manchester United looking to steal a march.

Still, with money seemingly tight in January too, there would appear to be little Newcastle can do…
